This is so lovely! I can't believe that you managed to get so many of my favourite things in there and fit them all together so well - really awesome job! I do love me some beat up Dean, especially one who just gets on with things rather than letting a little thing like pain throw him off. And it's very much the Dean Winchester brand of not giving a shit to go out in a t-shirt when he's got basilisk claw marks on his arms.
The fear they both - and especially Sam - have about trying to find a way back to the relationship they had before (either physically or just in the sense of trusting each other) is so very them and makes me want to smack their heads together for all the same reasons I do when watching the show. It's nice to see Dean actually taking the initiative to have a real conversation about their feelings - even if he's got a clear advantage in the situation thanks to the mind reading. :) I enjoyed Sam using the song as white-noise to drown out stress and things he wasn't meant to be feeling.
Sam made my heart ache when he said that he's often thought of himself as a monster, but not the kind who abuses his brother. The degree to which it bothers him says a lot about the various kinds of 'evil' in their lives and how Sam categorizes them. It reminded me of Dean in Benders saying that he understands monsters but people are crazy.
Thank you so much for this, smalltroven! What a wonderful gift for me! Merry SPN J2 Christmas! :)
