Hm, I've gotta say, I don't know how I feel about this pairing. It doesn't sit well with me, but I think that's entirely the point from John's POV. He was trying to keep secrets secret, and probably could sense Gordon wouldn't let up without a serious distraction. Anything for the job, that's John.
And John can be very distracting. ;)
Now that Gordon has that nugget though, he's not going to let go, so I can totally see him digging for more information on what John was hiding, and how he came to find out the story and in his head, twist it so much, especially after finally meeting the boys.
Really good job on this one - plays so well into future seasons. :D
