That's the thing with the canon continuity problems this season. Even when I think they mean to be dropping clues, as with Crowley, it really loses its effect when it's happening in a forest of careless mistakes. When the writers don't pay attention to the details they not only lose suspension of disbelief, they lose the effectiveness when the discontinuity is (I think) deliberate.
