Ah, this tore at my heart more than a little - all the hopes and fresh faced dreams and young kids working towards love. Mary looking for an escape - but I don't think she would have done that with anyone, she was waiting for John to rescue her in a way. And John, looking to prove himself and his worth. Knowing what we know, it's very bittersweet - I like these peeks into character you do, fleshing out backgrounds.
